1. Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is known for their versatility. Capable of doing almost anything, this breed is considered to be man’s true best friend.

They can take on the role of a perfectly good-natured family dog, a helpful service dog, to an expert hunting dog. They’re even-tempered and full of love they want to share with their owners.

Dedicated to their owners (and also to food!), this is a breed capable of building a truly special and unique bond with their owners.

There’s a good reason why they’re always at the top of the list of being the most affectionate of breeds.

2. Golden Retriever

My favorite breed: the Golden Retriever. Easy to train, super smart, and an absolute bundle of joy – the golden retriever is the best companion.
They are extremely dedicated, kind, goofy, and cute dogs. Which make them perfect for being family dogs. Whether it’s kids or old people, they’re immediately taken a liking to.
Golden retrievers are also known to be good tempered dogs. Not to mention, the very sight of a golden retriever puppy will melt your heart.
They’re great to have around if you’re looking for a family-friendly and affectionate dog. If you’re still not convinced, we recommend you sit down and watch Air Bud. With a box of tissues, of course.

3. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The elegant companion and the perfect hunting buddy. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known to be very calm and peaceful dogs.

In fact, they’re so calm and relaxed they are easily approachable by almost anybody. That being said, the Charles Spaniel is not a dog you would want as a watchdog.

Their relaxed and calm nature are associated well with both children and the elderly. Other than being calm and peaceful dogs, the Cav is fond of being outside.

They love being around their owners and cuddling up on their laps. And when they’re not playing or begging for your attention, they’ll simply just chill out with you on the couch or bed.

All they want is your affection and in return, you get their affection and loyalty.

4. English Bulldog

The English Bulldog was once known to be brutal fighting dogs. It’s understandable, their demeanor may give the wrong impression to most people and as a result, they often don’t get adopted, or even get abandoned.

However, these misconceptions have now changed. The English Bulldog is the most playful and goofy breed there is. They are so affectionate and friendly, it’s amazing how they were once known for being fighting dogs.

They want nothing more than to be loved and cuddled all the time. The best part is, they are exceptionally protective and courageous. It’s what makes them the best family dogs.

They will never start a fight on their own. Their unique and fun personality makes them an excellent buddy to have around with you.

5. American Pit Bull Terrier

The American Pit Bull Terrier is also another breed that is heavily misunderstood breeds. They’re the complete opposite of being brutal and unfriendly dogs.

The Pitbull is super friendly. Be prepared to be showered with their love and wet kisses. Loyal, loveable, huggable, this breed is just full of good energy.

The best part about this breed is that they’re incredibly great with kids. They’re known as the ‘nanny’ dog. You’ll never go wrong with having a Pitbull in your life.

They’re very misunderstood breeds and it’s up to us to make the world know that they are anything but dangerous. When and if treated right, the American Pitbull will definitely melt your heart with its constant cuddles.

6. Newfoundland Dog

Even though they grow up to be quite large dogs, the Newfoundland is gentle and intelligent beings. They are just the sweetest and friendliest of giants.

Besides being gentle, they are also very energetic and playful. Their best quality is their devotion and loyalty, which will never waiver.

Their love and affection are one of a kind and overall, they’re amazing dogs to have around children. Not to mention, their fluffy and soft coat is another positive addition of qualities.

The Newfoundland Dog are perfect family dogs. Although they require nutrition and care for a proper growth, they are totally worth it! So, if you’re particularly looking for a family friendly dog, give this gentle giant a chance and you won’t be disappointed.

7. Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is a small breed of dogs. They are often mistaken for being small poodles, but they’re not.

They have white, curly and fluffy fur. Their small build and good temper make them excellent family friendly dogs. Children are very fond of them and so are they.

The Bichon Frise is also known to have issues if they have been separated for too long with their family. Although they are a gentle and affectionate breed, they can have anxiety.

So, if you’re planning to get a Bichon Frise for your family, make sure you don’t leave them alone for too long. Other than that, these dogs are ideal to have around as a companion.

8. Great Dane

Great Dane is another breed of large dogs that will surprise you. If you were not aware of their love and gentleness, then be prepared to be amazed.

Despite having a large demeanor, they are very careful around children. Just like the Newfoundland, the Great Dane is also extremely gentle breed. They are kind and will also protect you from any kind of danger they sense.

They really like to cuddle, sometimes they forget they are huge dogs but that doesn’t stop them. Be prepared to be snuggled up against.

They rarely show aggression unless they feel they are threatened. Other than that, they’ll follow you around or nudge you to pet them. Give the Great Dane a chance, you won’t have a gentler companion.

Final Thoughts

There are other dogs who are equally affectionate, adorable, and can be great companions. For instance, a Greyhound, Boxers, Pugs, and even Papillion.

Our list of dogs will make a great addition to your family. You’ll never regret picking either of them, they’ll be faithful and amazing companions. Every breed of dog has their own unique personality and will have a different nature.

If you’re having a bad day at work, or if you’re feeling down and just need a hug, they’ll be there to share your sorrow and also make you feel better.
